Workshop Conclusions [pdf, 668 KB]
Germany,
UK and the European Commission are jointly organising a workshop
on "Heavily Modified Water Bodies: Information Exchange
on Designation, Assessment of Ecological Potential, Objective Setting
and Measures" on 12 - 13 March 2009 in Brussels (Representation
of Bavaria), in cooperation with the WFD CIS-ECOSTAT-group and the
CIS-HYMO-activity.
The workshop aims to allow information exchange on the following
topics:
- Designation of Heavily Modified Water
Bodies (HMWB): Exchange of experiences on practical application
of HMWB designation processes in the Member States.
- Establishing Good Ecological Potential
(GEP): Exchange experiences with the practical application of
methods for deriving GEP, including both the HMWB Guidance No
4 approach based on biological quality elements and the "Prague"
approach based on mitigation measures.
- Objective setting and measures: Discuss
experiences of Member States on objective setting for HMWB, including
the application of exemptions, and exchange information about
planned mitigation measures.
About 120 participants are expected for the event, including nominated
representatives from the Member States, the European Commission,
relevant European-level organisations and stakeholder groups.
