Welcome Address

The welcoming words will be spoken by Marta Szigeti Bonifert (Executive Director of REC). Afterwards, R. Andreas Kraemer (Director of Ecologic) will place the seminar in the political context.

Keynote Address

The opening speech will be given by David A. Wirth (Professor at the Boston College Law School). The Keynote Address will place the conference in the current political context, thus setting the stage for the subsequent discussions.

First Session

Building on the keynote address the first session will analyse more in depth the relationship between MEAs and WTO rules. Richard G. Tarasofsky (Head of the Sustainable Development Programme at The Royal Institute of International Affairs) will give a presentation highlighting the importance of the debate and analysing the problems of the relationship between MEAs and WTO rules.

Second Session

The afternoon sessions will be on European Trade Policy. Presentations given by Tobias Reichert (European Trade Policy Officer, WWF European Policy Office) and Rupert Schlegelmilch (Head of Unit F3, DG Trade, European Commission) will discuss institutions involved, possibilities for participation and issues of transparency.

Panel Discussion

3 - 4 selected participants and R. Andreas Kraemer (Director of Ecologic) as chair will discuss how to engage more actively in the negotiations and trade policymaking in the WTO, the European Union and MEAs. Lessons learned during the seminar will be pointed out.

Closing Remarks

R. Andreas Kraemer (Director of Ecologic) will sum up and close the Seminar.

Reception

The Seminar will end with an informal reception.
