The Common Agricultural
Policy (CAP) and the Water Framework Directive (WFD) are two of
the most influential European policies in the area of environmental
issues. Since 2005 the link between both policies is intensively
discussed at the EU level in the Strategic Steering Group on “Water
and agriculture”. The results obtained under the 2005/6 mandate
and the current mandate can be found here:

Since the
start of the WFD Common Implementation strategy Pilot River Basins
(PRBs) have played an important role in the development of Guidance
documents and other policy documents, by testing the implementation.
Within the work programme of PRBs the link between agriculture and
water resources was identified as one of the highest priorities.
